Water Heaters

  • Is a Permit Required to Install a Water Heater?

In most states, including Colorado, no matter where you reside, the answer is yes. The Law requires a building permit when installing a water heater. At Done Plumbing, we always secure the necessary permits and follow up inspections required. This helps ensure the safety of you, your family, or your employees as well as your home or business. It also means you are up to current building codes.

  • Is Carbon Monoxide Detector Required?

Yes. As of July 2009, Colorado law requires you have a carbon monoxide detector installed within 15 feet of every sleeping area. That means 15 ft or less from the doorway of any room designed for sleeping. You see, your water heater may leak carbon monoxide a colorless odorless gas that can cause death. A detector will set off an alarm to alert you if there is a leak. This law applies to installing or replacing any fuel fired appliance.

  • Should I Have Routine Maintenance Done to My Water Heater?

Yes. Annual maintenance on your water heater performed by a licensed professional is not only recommended to extend the life and efficiency of the unit, but is required by all manufacturers to keep their warranties in effect. And Done Plumbing can take care of that maintenance on any make or model of water heater to keep it performing at its best.

You see, without routine maintenance, sediments and mineral deposits can build up leading to higher gas and electric bills, costly repairs, and even complete replacement of the unit. Regularly scheduled routine maintenance is just one of the many ways Done plumbing is committed to helping our customers save money. So when it comes to water heaters, think done plumbing. Whether for routine maintenance, repair, or replacement, remember, one call and its Done!

Sewer Repair / Maintenance / Replacement

  • What Causes Sewer Back-ups?

A sewer back up can be caused by many things. The top three are: tree roots that have found there way into the sewer line, sludge build up from things like soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, food particles and grease, and defective pipes. A couple of indications that there may be a problem on the horizon are frequent backups, and the occasional or ongoing presence of sewage odor.

Regular inspections and the use of new technology, like video cameras, ensure that things run smoothly now and in the future. One call to Done Plumbing, and our expert technicians will be there to find and fix any problems that may exist in your sewer system, guaranteed.

  • What is a Video Inspection?

Today’s technology allows us to actually inspect the inside of your sewer pipes and system without the expense and damage of digging them up. We simply insert a remote video camera into the pipes that connect your home or office building to the main sewer system. Images from the camera are viewed on a video monitor in real time as it’s maneuvered through the pipes.

This allows us to quickly identify potential problems like roots or other obstructions, structural integrity, and areas where residue has solidified along the pipes. Tree roots are very common in established areas throughout Denver and in the Front Range. Roots can penetrate the seams of a pipe eventually slowing the flow or causing pipes to become separated.

If you’re buying an existing home, or suspect sewer problems in your current home, a video inspection from Done Plumbing is a fast and easy way to diagnose the condition of the sewer, identify problems, and correct minor issues before they become major problems.

  • Do I Need a Video Inspection?

Think of a video sewer inspection as a kind of exploratory surgery. It’s a great way for our technicians to get an inside view of exactly what might be a current or future problem. Any number of things can cause sewer lines to run slowly, or back up completely.

Shifting soil can cause a dip separation or even a break in the pipe as area trees mature roots can find their way into pipes clogging even cracking down sewer back-ups are unpleasant messy and can cause a lot of damage to the interior of your home.

So, if your system has backed up at any time of video inspection is the way to see the cause of the problem and here’s something you may have never thought about when buying a home especially on this older than ten years of video inspection should be a priority as the buyer remember once you closed on that home the sewer and any problems or repairs now belong to you.

Do It Yourself(DIY) Tips

  • Garbage Disposals

If your garbage disposal isn’t working, you may be able to fix it yourself and save some money. But before we talk about it, let me remind you that you should never place your hand or any other object into the opening up the disposal.
If the disposal suddenly stops working, and has no sign of life, wait a few minutes and let it cool down. Most units have a reset button; usually red, on the underside. Press and release that button. Run cold water, and try turning the disposal on again. Also check to make sure the disposal is plugged in.

What if your disposal hums but won’t turn?

    To be safe:

First, turn off the power at the breaker. Now, see if your disposal has a hole on the bottom designed to accept an Allen wrench. Most of them do. Insert the proper size wrench, and try turning both left and right to loosen whatever is causing the jam. Make sure the allen wrenches are removed from the slot. Turn the power back on. run cold water and see if the disposal works.

If not, Done Plumbing & Heating is just a phone call away 24 hours a day.

  • Sinks and Showers Drain Slowly

Overtime, it’s inevitable that drain pipes and traps under our sinks and showers will begin to take on some build up that can restrict and possibly stop water from draining. Depending on the location the problem, it can be the result of hair, residue from soap or products like shampoos, conditioners & lotions, or food particles and grease. There could also be a more serious problem in your home sewer system.

Typical products off the shelf can be caustic, hard on your pipes, and harmful to the environment. It’s for these reasons that we recommend you have Done Plumbing take a look at the problem first. This will ensure that the problem is diagnosed properly, and fixed right the first time. We can also show you how some simple preventive steps with natural products like by BioClean can help prevent the same problems from occurring in the future.

  • Flush Tank Leaking

A leaky toilet can waste a thousand gallons of water a year! And increase your water bill.
Some leaks or not easy to notice. So, here’s an easy do it yourself test:

Add a few drops of food coloring to your flush tank. Don’t flush. Leave the toilet for at least 20 minutes.

If the color appears in the bowl, you know you have a leak.

At that point, just give us a call and we’ll get it fixed and working like it should, guaranteed.

One good way to keep your toilet in good working order is to avoid using in tank cleaning tablets that release bleach. These are notorious for damaging toilet parts which can lead to a leaky flush tank.

  • Washing Machine Hoses

One of the most common insurance claims related to water damage comes from an unlikely suspect: the hoses on your washing machine. Chances are good that your washing machine came with a simple, plain old rubber hoses. The problem is rubber expands and contracts. And overtime, it dries out and becomes brittle. So, it’s not a matter of if, but WHEN a hose will burst.

Here’s a simple solution that can save you the time and hassle that a ruptured hose can cause:

Replace your existing washing machine hoses with new stainless steel braided hose. Its mesh sleeve keeps the plastic tubing inside from expanding and retracting; extending the life of the hose. They’re available at most hardware stores, and you can do it yourself. Or, if you prefer, with one simple call Done Plumbing & Heating can put your mind at ease and install new hoses that are guaranteed not to burst.

  • Locating your Water Main Valve

In case of a leak, you should know exactly where to find your whole house shut-off valve so you can turn off the water, and avoid additional damage until repairs can be made.

In the Denver area, it’s typically in the basement, or in the front of the home. Other places to look are in the garage, a mechanical room, or utility area. You will know you found it because it features either a lever style ball valve, or simple gate valve. The lever style takes a simple quarter turn while the gate valve will typically require multiple turns to completely stop the supply of water to your home.

  • Message from the Owner of Done Plumbing & Heating

We started done plumbing as a plumbing company that also did drains. Then we got into the heating business. We’ve been an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau since we started in 1999. Our quality of our work is second to none.

We do the things a lot companies a lot of company’s don’t do. Our guys put booties on when they enter a residence or business They clean up their mess when they’re done if a mess is made.

We have varying guarantees depending upon the nature of the problem. Typically we guarantee our work for ninety days for drain cleaning, and for up to a year for plumbing repairs.

If we can’t fix problems, no charge for what we did. We give free second opinions, and we started doing that because we know that there are companies out there who try and sell people a sewer line for twenty thousand dollars or more that don’t even need to have this repair. So, we’ll go out and actually camera line inspect the line and if line is not open, we’ll try and open the line for free as a second opinion.

Our people know that they are not to try and sell anybody anything that they don’t need. That is a very strong point with us and always has been for the 33 years I’ve been in the business.

We just went over 50 employees. We have a very extensive interview process to go through, an extensive background check, and our people come to me all the time and tell me how much they love working here because it is a family oriented business.

Plumbers wanna come to work for us, but not very many are qualified. So, if you want quality work at a fair price, on time, you wanna use Done Plumbing.

Let’s be honest: Nobody thinks about their plumbing and heating until there’s a problem.

What most people don’t realize is that most of those problems can be anticipated and often avoided with regular maintenance – usually at a far lower cost than a repair or replacement.

Reviews

“This past week I had the need for a plumber and I reviewed the telephone book and selected from the advertisements your company to attend to the matter. The company sent Austin Steinbach to attend to and review the problem. He is a very knowledgeable young man who communicates well and does his work in a very thorough and professional manner. I was very satisfied with his service. Mr. Steinbech is a credit to your company. Very often in communities someone asks whether they are aware of a plumber or other technician that can be recommended. In this regard, I am comfortable in recommending Mr. Steinbech and your company. Thank you for the service rendered.”

“Quick & competent work done to high satisfaction. Darrell Begay provided quick service and very professional work when he came to install a new toilet seat. We had not been able to do the work ourselves, so it was a relief to have Darrell and Done Plumbing get here so quickly to take care of the task. We appreciate all Done as done for us”

“Just a note to tell you of our recent positive experience with Kieth Croft. We found him to be friendly, knowledgeable, & efficient. When an issue arose with the clean-outs, Kieth quickly resolved it to our satisfaction & to the way he had previously described. From the estimate to the conclusion of the project we had confidence in Kieth. He is a good ambassador for your company.”

“Just a note of thanks for being the Best plumbing and heating company. I have used you often and have been impressed every time. I called for a drain cleaning and was told a technician could come the same day. He arrived an hour ealier than was quoted, was very professional and did a great job at a very reasonable price with my coupon that he honored. I would never use another company and would recommend you to anybody that needs help. The technician that did such a great job was Austin, but every technician you have sent has been the best. Thanks again for such a wonderful company”

~ Karla W Golden, CO

“It was very professional, prompt & the technician explained many things well. Very happy throughout the whole process – from the customer service rep who answered the phone this morning to the technician explaining building codes to me.
